Summary of Deceptive Secure MI Vote Petition Remains Flawed
MICHIGAN – Yesterday, the Board of State Canvassers approved summary text for the Secure MI Vote ballot initiative. In response, Sharon Dolente, senior advisor for Promote the Vote released the following statement:
“The summary text approved by the Board of State Canvassers yesterday is flawed because it ignores the fact that Michigan already has a voter identification law that requires every, single registered voter in Michigan to verify their identity before voting. The backers of this petition are out to deceive voters about what’s in this proposal and about the security and convenience of our voting system. This proposal will interfere with the freedom to vote of every registered voter in Michigan, it will not be put to a vote of the people of Michigan, and it is designed to block the people’s ability to use the referendum to repeal this voter suppression initiative if adopted.”
