LANSING - During today’s Election Integrity Committee meeting, Chris Kaijala from the Election Integrity Fund (EIF) made a number of far-fetched allegations about Michigan’s election system without providing documentary evidence to support his claims. In response to questions from committee members, Mr. Kaijala agreed to provide references to support his allegations at a later time.
The Election Integrity Fund is a Michigan-based election denier organization known for promoting conspiracy theories that have been disproven by election experts, audits, and bipartisan reviews. Their continued efforts to undermine public confidence in Michigan’s secure and accurate elections do a disservice to voters and our democracy.
“We know that Michigan’s voting system is secure and accurate, as has been proven time and again. Nevertheless, election deniers continue to make implausible, unsubstantiated claims.” said Micheal Davis Jr., Executive Director of Promote The Vote. “We look forward to Mr. Kaijala presenting his documentary evidence to the Committee and to continuing PTV’s work to help the public understand the many checks and balances that maintain the integrity of Michigan’s election system.”
Michigan’s election system is designed with multiple checks and balances to ensure that only eligible voters can be registered and cast a ballot, and that the votes on each ballot are recorded accurately. A full breakdown of these safeguards can be found at MichiganVoting.org/secure-and-accurate-elections.
For example, Michigan election officials work year-round to maintain accurate voter rolls. As part of this process, the Secretary of State’s office is slated to remove more than 318,000 inactive voter registrations from the state’s voter rolls next month—demonstrating the ongoing commitment to election integrity and security.
